So we know all know Lady Gaga loves to wear outrageous shoes. You know the one's we're talking about...the extremely high platforms with absolutely no heel, meaning zero forms of support. Not sure what we're talking about? Take a look...

Not only does she wear them out and about, but she's performed in them on more than one occasion. Now we're all for funky shoes, but for the sake of women's feet, calves, and overall posture, we really hope these heelless shoes don't become a trend! You definitely won't see them available at this Thursday's shoe auction.

The Heart Truth - Shoe Auction

SHOE AUCTION

We're getting close to the shoe auction fundraiser in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The event will be taking place Thursday April 4th at the Delta Winnipeg hotel and tickets are still available for $50. Doors open at 5:30pm and the rainbow style shoe auction will begin at 6:00pm. The auction will feature 120 pairs of shoes from sizes 5-11, and in a wide variety of styles and colours. Here's a sneak peek at some of the shoes that can soon be yours!

Julie Pedersen - Muckies

Winnipeg designer Julie Pedersen is the creator of these amazing boots, Muckies. She's had a strong interest in fashion since she started modelling at the age of 15. She went on to study fashion design in Vancouver before making her way back to Winnipeg. When she came back it was in the middle of a cold winter and all she could think about was how she needed a good pair of boots. We all know how hard in can be to find boots that are warm and fashionable at the same time, so which one do we choose?

Julie chose both! She designed a pair of pink Muckies for herself and it wasn't long before people wanted to place orders. The great thing about her boots is that they're all custom made, so you can choose whatever colour combinations you want; perfect if you're tired of only being able to buy boots in black, grey, and brown. 

Not only has Julie designed boots for Winnipeggers, but she's designed for celebrities as well. Now we know what you're thinking..."Are these celebrities people have actually heard of?" Well if Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and Rumer Willis don't ring a bell, then we don't know who does!

Red Dress Gala & Fashion Show

A couple of weeks ago a third party event was held in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A student from the Creative Communications program at Red River College hosted a Red Dress Gala & Fashion Show which featured hors d'oeuvres, chocolate covered strawberries, wine sponsored by Colby Red, silent auction prizes, and a fashion show featuring the work of 5 local designers. 

Winnipeg is starting to become known for it's local fashion industry and the Red Dress Gala was a great event to introduce the talented designers that create beautiful art in our very own backyard. Here are some of the designs that went down the runway at the event!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

A true fashionista would know that last week was Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. MB Fashion Week is a bi-annual event that takes place in February and September, and features the work of tons of well established designers throughout the week. Some of the designers last week included: Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole, Rachel Zoe, and about 75 other design artists. Over 8 days these designers showcased pieces from their upcoming collections in front of thousands of admirers and industry professionals such as retailers, buyers, and fashion magazine editors.

Pantone's Colour of 2013 - EMERALD

So we've talked about Tangerine Tango as the colour of 2012. We've talked about how we thought the real colour of the year was Mint. But we haven't talked about the colour of 2013...EMERALD...according to Pantone of course. Emerald seems to be a classic colour choice, which may have something to do with Edward L. Bernays.

We know what you're thinking; who's Edward L. Bernays?

Bernays, often referred to as the father of spin, was a public relations practitioner in the early 1900s, who convinced women that green was the "it" colour, in order to help persuade them to by a brand of cigarettes that had green packaging. Even back then women were concerned about clashing.

But whether or not Bernays had an influence on green becoming a classic and fashionable colour for women, we're excited to see what this year of emerald will bring to our wardrobes, and more importantly, to our feet.

Pantone Colour of 2012 - Tangerine Tango

According to Pantone, the colour of 2012 was tangerine tango. Not sure what Pantone is? It's an organization that has seems to have a lot of authority when it comes to colours, whether it be for technology, furniture, or fashion.
